In the same year 1927 when the Americans standardisized Santa Claus, Finnish children's radio show host Uncle Markus told that Santa lives in Lapland at Korvatunturi. The Korvatunturi community has grown since that time to include Mrs. Santa and Santa's elves.
Before moving to Korvatunturi, the elves were guardians of households. They watched over food sheds, saunas, and mills. For this they were rewarded at christmas by having food at the table overnight and sauna ready for bathing. Nowadays the elves help Santa in making the presents and go peeking in windows keeping an eye on the children.
